Glucose clamping GM 9D

Avantages

Analox have developed the GM9D Glucose Direct analyser for 'ultra-fast' whole blood glucose analysis without the need for any special sample collection system. It has particular application to clamping studies and diabetic clinics.

Application to glucose clamping:

In the investigation of carbohydrate metabolism there are situations when it is important to have access to rapid serial blood glucose data. Notably this is when glucose clamping is applied. This implies maintaining the blood glucose level constant, by means of glucose or insulin infusion, while observations are made on some aspect of metabolism. The new Analox GM9D Glucose Direct analyser enables the immediate analysis of a whole blood sample (5µl or 10µl) with no preparative treatment, and injected directly into the analyser. No collecting tube is needed although one can be used if required. The same pipette used to collect the sample (for example from an indwelling catheter) is used to inject the blood into the analyser. The GM9D can also be used for plasma or other biological samples.

Analytical principle:

With glucose oxidase enzyme, the analyser measures the rate of oxygen uptake and, under appropriate controlled conditions, this is directly proportional to the glucose concentration:

Operation:

Injecting a whole blood sample is all you need to do to obtain a result and prepare the analyser for the next analysis. Sample injection via a very accurate positive displacement pipette triggers the complete analytical cycle. A hard-copy result is obtained on the integral printer just 32 seconds later. The RS232 port facilitates interface with your PC database.
Subsidiary menus are reached via the YES and NO buttons which enable the user to change calibration values, change units and perform statistical data analysis. The display also provides self-test diagnostics in relation to the electrode status and fluid movements.

Analytical Performance

Linearity

0 - 30mmol/L using 10µl sample, 0 - 50mmol/L using 5µl sample

Comparison With Plasma

Mean difference whole blood < plasma 0.105mmol/L (human,<30mmol/L)
Mean difference whole blood < plasma 0.74mmol/L (rat,<30mmol/L)

Precision

SD's range from 0.07-0.26mmol/L for human blood < 30mmol/L

Sensitivity (Analyser)

0.01mmol/L, 0.1mg/dl (selectable
